February 2017

City Offices will be closed Monday, February 20 in observance of Presidents Day.

Correct house addresses save lives! Thank you for changing your house numbers to reflect 911 changes. If you have not corrected your address, please do soon as the deadline is approaching. Notify City Hall if an unused and/or vacant house near you is still showing old, incorrect numbers. Ambulance drivers and other emergency services need to see correct numbers to save lives.

Fun Fact! Saturday, February 18 marks the 158th anniversary of the incorporation of the City of McLeansboro; the “ugh” spelling at the end of McLeansborough was dropped, and changes in local government were made.

Republic Garbage Services will run without interruption of services this month. Please put your totes out the evening before pick-up and remove them from the street-side as soon as possible following pick-up. All trash should be bagged and inside the tote. Republic is not required to accept additional bags of trash at curb-side.

Garden Dreams! This is the time of year for gardening catalogues to begin showing up in mailboxes. If you’re planning on planting trees on your property, please think ahead. Avoid planting trees where they will grow up and cause problems with power lines or right-of-ways. Most of the tree problems we have today are a result of no, or poor plating. Do not plant trees in easements. When in doubt, call the Electric Department. Remember to call 811 to avoid hitting service lines while digging.

Early voting for the Consolidated General Election begins Thursday, February 23.

Box Tops for Education and Best Choice UPC Codes are collected at City Hall for our schools. You can drop them off when you pay your bill.

NOTICE: The city is not responsible for mail delivery. Failure to receive billing
does not relinquish responsibility for payment or penalty. Payment for utilities
is always due on the 10th of the month. Any utility bills not paid by 4:00 P.M. on
Wednesday, May 17 will result in the customer having services interrupted on
Thursday, May 18. A reconnect fee of $25.00 will be charged. Customers are
responsible for all costs requiring collection.
