City Government

The City of McLeansboro has an aldermanic  form of government.  The legislative body, or City Council, consists of two aldermen from each of the three City Wards elected for a four-year term. Their terms are staggered so that half are elected every two years. There are six aldermen.  The mayor is the chief executive officer of the municipality. The mayor, city clerk, and city treasurer are elected at large to a four-year term. Other offices and vacancies are filled by appointment by the mayor with the advice and consent of the City Council.

City Hall is closed for the following holidays: New Years Day, Good Friday, President’s Day, Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Veteran’s Day, Thanksgiving Day, Day after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, and Christmas day.
